Every student possesses a creative, curious, and imaginative mind. We foster this growth by providing a nurturing environment where students feel safe to explore and experiment. In this setting, students can build the patience and discipline required to unlock their unique artistic aesthetics as well as strengthen core classroom skills.
Projects will be rubric based and in many cases (ex. One-point perspective) there will be clear rules by which the art will be assessed. However, to create a space that encourages a true freedom of fun and fearless exploration, projects will largely be assessed by the principles of effort, safety, and respect. These principles are derived directly from the following National Core Arts Standards:
Demonstrate persistence in developing skills with various materials, methods, and approaches in creating works of art or design.
Demonstrate quality craftsmanship through care for and use of materials, tools, and equipment.
Demonstrate safe procedures for using and cleaning art tools, equipment, and studio spaces.
I encourage students to think not in terms of “good/bad” or “right/wrong” but to put forth the consistent effort necessary to grow artistically and academically. Grades will be comprised of successful attainment of specific skills completed during in-class assignments as well as the following rubric:
